1812
Last updated: 10 October 2026
This Transparency Policy sets out how 1812 makes, checks and maintains every claim about its sneakers: the materials, the making, the packaging and the goals of the business.
It applies to everything 1812 publishes: www.1812england.com, the Journal, email, social platforms, press material, packaging and print, and every reply from Client Services.
01
Purpose
A client should be able to see where a pair comes from and how it is made. This policy exists so that every statement 1812 makes about that can be shown to be true.
1812 follows the six principles of the Competition and Markets Authority Green Claims Code. A claim must be truthful and accurate, clear, complete, fair in any comparison, considered across the life of the product, and supported by evidence.
02
Evidence
A claim is published only when the evidence for it is held, dated and can be produced on request. Evidence means one or more of the following:
A certificate issued to the business that holds it
An entry on a public register
A written statement from a supplier
A product specification
A photograph or film of the work
03
Language
1812 names the material, the animal, the place of tanning and the process.
1812 does not describe a product, a material or itself as sustainable, eco, green, environmentally friendly or carbon neutral. These terms are too broad to be proven, and they are not used.
A certification that covers one part of a product is never presented as covering the whole product.
04
Figures
No environmental figure is published unless it applies to 1812 itself, its source can be cited and the method behind it is stated.
Figures published by a supplier remain the supplier's own and are attributed to them.
05
Certification
A certification is described in the certifying body's own terms and attributed to the business that holds it. It is checked against the public register before publication and again when it falls due for renewal. A certification mark is shown only where the scheme permits it.
The tannery that finishes 1812 deerskin, La Biesseuno of Cologna Veneta, Italy, is certified by the Leather Working Group. The certificate is public. 1812 does not itself hold this certification and does not claim it.
06
Suppliers and Traceability
Tanneries and leather suppliers are named. Other suppliers are named when they have agreed to it. Where a supplier is not named, the material and the process are still described accurately.
The leather of every pair is traced to the tannery that finished it. Further stages of the supply chain are published as each is confirmed.
07
The Making
Every piece of every 1812 sneaker is cut by hand. Every pair is closed, lasted and finished by hand in England.
Made in England is the only origin claim 1812 makes for its sneakers. Materials and components are described separately, and accurately.
08
Materials and Plastics
The lasts every pair is built on, and the sole unit, are made with plastics. 1812 states this plainly.
1812 works with makers who return their plastic waste to production, where it is made into new material. A worn sole unit removed when a pair is resoled is returned for recycling.
09
Resoling
Every 1812 sneaker can be resoled through the 1812 Resole Service.
1812 makes no other claim about how long a pair will last.
10
Packaging
The goal is zero plastic in 1812 packaging.
Until it is reached, any plastic that remains is replaced as soon as an alternative gives the same protection.
11
Energy
The goal is renewable energy across manufacture, delivery and the business.
1812 favours makers, carriers and suppliers who use it.
12
Goals and Progress
A goal is stated as a goal. It is never presented as achieved.
Progress is published only when it can be shown, and is dated when it is.
13
Product Information
Product information is published on each product page and kept consistent with this policy.
Where the law requires product information in a set form, including a digital product passport, 1812 publishes it in that form.
14
Requesting Evidence
Any client may ask for the evidence behind a claim. 1812 replies with what it holds, including where a fact is still being confirmed.
Write to info@1812england.com or through the Contact page.
15
Corrections
A claim found to be inaccurate is corrected or removed from every channel as soon as it is found.
Where a correction is material, the date of the change is shown at the top of this page.
16
Changes to This Policy
This policy and the evidence behind it are reviewed before every release and whenever a certification is renewed. This policy is owned by the founder of 1812.
1812 may update this policy at any time. The version on this page applies from the date shown above.
